Alien Abduction Insurance: An out of this world cover, literally

Stop planet Earth! I want out now!

How many times have we heard this expression this year?

Well, we may not be able to help you get out, but if an alien does, we’ve got you covered. It has to be by force, though, and you will have to be able to prove it.

If you think it’s a scam, think again! Alien Abduction Insurance has been in the market since 1987, and a couple of claims have actually been paid.

It is, however, sold by specialist insurers, so you may need to look around to find a provider.

Here’s everything you need to know about Alien Abduction Insurance:

1-    What is Alien abduction insurance?

The policy indemnifies you if you are ever abducted by an Alien into outer space.

2-    What does it cover?

  • Medical expenses if you ever return to Earth
  • Trauma caused by sarcasm. The cover is restricted to family members making fun of your situation. According to insurance company stats, this represents up to 70% of all instances of sarcasm so it is more than enough coverage.

3-    What is the limit of indemnity?

There are different products out there, but it can be up to $10 Million.

You may even receive double indemnity if the abduction results in offspring or in case of abuse by the alien.

And if a claim is successful, you will receive…wait for it…..a check of $1 per year for the rest of your life.

4-    Is it expensive?

Not at all. It costs a one-time (single) premium of around $20 to buy Alien Abduction cover. Even if you don’t need it, it could be the perfect gift for someone you know who might fear such a risk.

5-    What kind of proof will insurers need in case of a claim?

There are no standard requirements, but some or all of the following may be needed:

  • As with all other types of insurance, you will have to provide a detailed description of the event.
  • You may also have to:
    • Pass a lie detector test
    • Give particulars of the Alien (where they are from, what they look like, what kind of spaceship they use…)
    • Provide a recording of the encounter
    • Provide a witness statement

There is a catch, though, and that is that you’re covered for one occurrence only. If you get abducted again, you’re on your own. Being an alien magnet is too high a risk for any insurer to cover.
